Re: weatherlink IP and downld02.txt

Does depend on exactly what you might want but I've got a summary of current options for programmatic access to data on wl.com (which I think is what you asking about?). Please see:

https://www.manula.com/manuals/pws/davis-kb/1/en/topic/wl-com-2-0-data-handling

The last option might be what you're after but you'll need a userkey from Davis (different from the standard wl.com API token).

from what I can see here, there is the possibility to download a .csv file with the summary data (that is what I'm looking for) but it also says:
Quote
New data is only available once per hour. And remember that access to the Data tab requires a Pro tier subscription or higher.
So you need to have a weatherlink pro account, the standard/free isn't enough. :-(

Is that a problem? If you want more frequent data then don't you work with the current data rather than historic?

No it doesn't say that, simply that if you wanted to run the equivalent data downloads interactively then you'd need access to the Data tab. But AFAIK it will work with a free account if you're simply seeking to download the hourly data file programmatically. (But even if it weren't free then is that too much of a surprise - running these huge platforms is expensive and they have to be paid for somehow. Davis's model is the familiar freemium one - basic features are free but access to whatever is classified as a more advanced feature costs something significant, but not extortionate, on an annual basis.)

downld02.txt is not a specific WeatherLink IP product but does come from WeatherLink PC .... but yes is PC dependent

Just as an addendum here: It's not clear exactly what the OP is seeking to achieve, but another scenario would be this:

WLIP uploads its data to wl.com as per default. A PC  - which could in theory be located literally anywhere worldwide - running the standard WL for Windows program then pulls down data from wl.com via Web Download (but no more than hourly since this is the frequency with which summary data is uploaded to wl.com) and generates downld02.txt locally (controlled via Internet Settings in WL). Don't recall ever trying this specifically but it should work I think and would be part of the free features.

Hi dear forum memebers,

may you are so kind and help me out.

I use a Davis VUE since 04.2017 and collect the datas to my PC which has the WL Software 6.0.5. I use the usb davis data cable. My website www.bosch-technik.de has the leuven template which shows all informations. So far so good.
But now I allso like to show / analyse the historical collected datas for example ( https://www.weerstation-herent.be/wsreports/_test1.php?lang=en# )  . For that I registered by weather underground. The acutal datas are shown correct. My station is IMAINT4.  Now my question: How ist is possible to upload my archived datas also?? I installed in WL the expansion modul and it shows up, but everytime I try to upload my archived datas the WL softawre carsh / freezes (even I upload it monthly wise)...

Please help me out

Regards Marcel

Re: WLIP Connection was reset on recent Firefox and WLIP 1.1.3

I don't know if this was a result of a recent FF update (64.0) or the 1.1.3 FW update for WLIP, but when I put the IP address for my WLIP in I get a reset connection. I can briefly see the page.

It works fine on Edge and FF on my Linux box. (older version)

I can use the other browser or Linux box if I need to access it, but I was wondering if anyone else has seen this.

I cleared the FF cache and cookies, and added an exclusion for Malwarebytes for the WLIP IP address. No effect.

Greg H.

I put a query into Davis and they recommended clearing the cache.

It worked and I no longer have the issue.

I just want to be able to migrate my historical data and my serial data logger (Weather Monitor II) from Windows 98SE to Windows 7.

What makes you think that weatherlink.com has anything to do with such a transfer?

Run a current version of Weatherlink for Windows on your Win7 machine and look in the Help for how to copy existing data files from your old PC to the new one. (Or if AND ONLY IF if you were running eg v4 of Weatherlink previously then look at how to Import data files in the old format).

BECAUSE that's where one can now DOWNLOAD the current version of WeatherLink Computer Software for free ... at WeatherLink.com. If you are aware of another link then please provide that link to help the person out

Obviously the person is in the right place to DOWNLOAD the current WeatherLink version but just maybe Davis won't let the person do that because they don't have a stupid bloody account????

How about some real help here, some simple links to WL versions this person may require, the person's request for some help is fairly simple?

OK, so you think that what the OP is after is a download link for the latest version of Weatherlink for Windows (even though they don't say that anywhere)? OK, well see:

https://www.manula.com/manuals/pws/davis-kb/1/en/topic/download-weatherlink-program

There is also a direct download link floating around somewhere, but that link has a tendency to change without notice.

Well that was certainly my impression, looking on WeatherLink.com for the WL download as that is certainly where it is currently flagged.

And yes there is a direct download link but it has become so obscure and basically inaccessible from within the Davis website I can't even find it at the moment which makes one ask the question why? There has always been that air of secrecy re access to WeatherLink software, access to upgrades and access to full versions etc

Agreed, DAVIS (*) has NOT learned that "new & improved" are too often mutually-exclusive parameters -- the new website is PRETTIER but it's NOT BETTER.

(*) Granddaddy of this is unlearned lesson is Microsoft!

Gentlemen: I am sorry to have stirred up a hornet's nest! Please excuse my ignorance; I am new to this forum website and unschooled in the world of the latest Weatherlink software.  While doing a Google search into how one gets from Weatherlink 4 and windows 98 to a Weatherlink program that might work with my Weather Monitor II data logger and Windows 7, I ran across the old post (to which my response was addressed) which seemed to mention how one does this. It sent me to the Weatherlink.com website which I found difficult to navigate, and said so.

Please, I could use some advice on how to solve my actual problem. I have already downloaded (free) and tried to install Weatherlink 6.03, per instructions, into a folder on my Windows 7 machine which contains the old executable file for Weatherlink 4 (named PCLINK4.exe). That attempt failed with the message, "WeatherLink installation not complete. Possibly upgraded to the wrong folder." Perhaps the installer detected that Weatherlink 4 was not actually "installed" on the new machine, but that is because you CAN'T install it under Windows 7. Or maybe the download I got was only an upgrade and lacks stuff it is supposed to get from the old installation. I don't know! It just seems logical that there should be a procedure for me to install this new version and direct it to my data stream arriving via my serial port, and hopefully allow me to see all my old data files, as well (nearly 20 years worth). Any help would be greatly appreciated, but please try to feed it to me gently. I am technically savvy, but jargon challenged.

1. Go to WeatherLink.com
2. Sign in and if you don’t have an account you’ll need to crest one.
3. Clink on the man icon > Computer Software
4. Download the Full Version 6.05 or Update version as applicable

Do you have all your V4 files (20 years worth) in that PCLINK4 directory? These will be files with an extension relative to your station name/Id etc which is a different file/extension to what WeatherLink uses today and why you will have to convert them, but first you have to install the current WeatherLink. So yes first things first download that V6.05 as per above and do a completely new/fresh install totally ignoring and not using any existing weather directory. I would completely archive the old PCLINK4 directory including all the monthly data files and put it somewhere safe.

When you have V6.05 loaded then open WeatherLink, under the [File] tab there is an option to [Import Database files], but first open Help>Help Topics>Menu Commands>File Menu>Import data Files and read it to understand what is going on.

Routine WU alerts of station not reporting

Likely more a WU topic but since data coming from a VP2 with IP logger thought would start here.

For about the last month, almost every day, I receive an email from WU that my station has stopped reporting data.  Then routinely 30-40 minutes later I receive an email that I am back on line - with no action being taken on my part.  Internet connection was maintained throughout this time and I am able to view my stations data in this window on Weatherlink.com and on the iphone app - so I know the IP logger is transmitting data to Davis.  I don't know of a way to check the connection between Davis and fwd on to WU (or exactly what that flow is).  Interesting thing is earlier this year my station was off line for several days due to a local network issue and I never received an alert from WU.  These only seemed to have started in the last month or so.

I am not overly worried about it as always seems to resolve it self relatively quickly, and I don't really use WU, other than my smart sprinkler system does pull down "hyper-local" weather conditions and rainfall amounts from my weather station to adjust irrigation schedules.

Thanks for any suggestions

are you trying to put the ID and the DID in the log in to enter WL.com?

If you are, you don't do that.   You have to establish the usual username and password as you did when you added your device to the WL.com site.   I am attaching the Weatherlink.com Site log on.  is this where you are putting in yourstuff?

Hi guys, I have a question for you. I have my VP2 online via wifilogger. I upload data on WeatherLink with Pro account, every 10 minutes without problems. Online I see the uploaded data, etc. Now I would like to download my weather data with the WeatherLink software on my PC ..... download data from WeatherLink web to PC. I can't !!! How do you configure ???? In adjusting the software I have downloaded from the web putting ID and password my Davis but nothing. Where am I wrong?

Are you using the API key?  you can find that on the site for your unit

To download data from the Weatherlink.com site, you have to have a pro account.  that is where they get you, you have to purchase the account , the basic won't let you into your data.

Not true! You can (currently, at least) download your latest 10240 archive records on a free account at wl.com via Web Download to WLfW.

Guys I solved, it was my fault. I put the station ID and then his key, instead I had to put my password in. Everything works .

Thanks for the answers
